Recall Date: 6/4/2026
NHTSA ID: 26V366
MFr. Campaign Number: DOV
Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
Affected Components: Flat tire repair kit (sealant bottle and nozzle)
Potential Number of Units Affected: 1,049,883
This recall spans three hybrid and fuel-cell models: the 2025–2026 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell EV (340 vehicles), the 2023–2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid (744,530 vehicles), and the 2023–2026 Honda Accord Hybrid (305,013 vehicles), for a total of 1,049,883 vehicles. All three share the same flat tire repair kit, which replaces a traditional spare on these models.
The kit's sealant bottle can build excessive internal pressure if the nozzle isn't properly connected to the tire valve during use. A relief valve is designed to release that pressure, but on some units the valve was improperly adjusted during supplier manufacturing and doesn't release as intended. If pressure keeps building, the bottle cap can detach.
There's no advance warning built into the kit itself. The risk only becomes relevant if a driver needs to use the repair kit after a flat tire, which is precisely when the excess pressure and cap detachment can occur.
Honda has not issued a Do Not Drive or Park Outside advisory for this campaign, since the risk is tied to kit use rather than routine driving. The remedy is a dealer replacement of the tire repair kit nozzle or sealant bottle, at no charge. Dealer notification begins on or about June 5, 2026, with interim owner notification following on or about July 27, 2026.
As of the recall determination, Honda had logged 53 warranty claims and eight reports of injury tied to this condition, with no reports of death, across incidents dating back to September 2022.
Honda received its first report of the issue in April 2023, but the returned parts weren't available for analysis at the time. The investigation stalled through 2024 as Honda and the supplier worked to reproduce the failure, and it wasn't until March 2026 that Honda's engineers isolated the relief valve as the likely cause. Honda made the recall decision on May 28, 2026, the same day it decided to recall the Ridgeline, Pilot, Passport, and MDX population for a separate rear subframe issue.
Two Honda recalls landing in the same week is a scheduling coincidence tied to Honda's internal review cycle rather than a sign of a systemic quality issue. Dealers should expect both campaigns to generate service drive traffic through the summer.
A kit that only matters when a driver has a flat tire is easy for owners to forget about until they need it, which means recall letters for this kind of defect often sit unread. Proactive outreach that reaches owners before they're stranded on the shoulder is more valuable here than with most recalls.
BizzyCar Recall Outreach identifies which CR-V Hybrid, CR-V Fuel Cell EV, and Accord Hybrid owners in a dealer's database are affected, then uses two-way SMS to get them scheduled without requiring a service advisor to work the phones. The fix happens on the dealer's timeline instead of waiting for an owner to discover the problem the hard way.
