The water management system on the tailgate may not let water drain away from the rearview camera. Over time, pooled water can damage the camera and cause a distorted image, or no image, on the touchscreen. A blurred or missing camera image can leave a driver unaware of objects or pedestrians behind the vehicle, which raises the risk of injury or a crash.
The remedy is free. Dealers will drill additional drain holes in the underside of the tailgate trim that houses the camera. They will also verify the camera works and replace it if needed. Jaguar Land Rover introduced a revised seal on the tailgate trim piece on June 4, 2026, which corrected the condition in production.
On July 31, 2026, Jaguar Land Rover’s Product Safety and Compliance Committee opened an investigation into unusually high rear camera replacement rates on Range Rover vehicles, particularly in the US and Canada. After gathering removed parts and sending them to the supplier for analysis, the company found on October 6, 2026 that most of the analyzed cameras had failed due to water ingress. On October 8, 2026, the Decision Forum ordered a recall.
Jaguar Land Rover received 2,295 claims and field reports in the US involving camera replacement between August 3, 2022 and September 28, 2026. The company reports no accidents, injuries, or fires in the US tied to this issue.
