Recall Date:
8/6/2026

NHTSA ID: 26V531

Mfr. Campaign Number: 78D

Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

Affected Components: Rearview Camera Display

Potential Number of Units Affected: 844,027

Which Dodge, Ram, Jeep, and Chrysler vehicles are affected?

Every vehicle on this list shares the same radio unit, and the same software defect in it. The rearview system is supposed to default to displaying the camera image at the start of every backing event, no matter what the driver had selected before, which is a specific requirement under FMVSS No. 111. On the affected build, the software can fail to do that, so the screen that should show what's behind the vehicle simply doesn't. FCA estimates 100 percent of the population carries the suspect software, which is why the campaign reaches all 16 nameplates rather than a smaller subset.

What drivers need to know

No Do Not Drive or Park Outside advisory applies to this campaign, so owners can keep driving normally while the fix rolls out. The remedy is a software update, delivered over the air where the vehicle is capable, or loaded from a USB drive at the dealer if it isn't, and it comes at no cost to the owner either way. FCA plans to notify dealers on or about August 20, 2026, and start notifying owners on or about September 1, 2026, on a phased schedule that runs through September 25. VINs become searchable in NHTSA's recall lookup on August 20, 2026, so owners don't have to wait for a letter to check their vehicle.

Dodge, Ram, Jeep, and Chrysler recall background

FCA's Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance group opened its investigation on May 7, 2026, after identifying a potential loss of rearview image display across the Ram, Jeep, and Chrysler lineup. Through May and June, engineers reviewed warranty data, field records, and customer assistance records to gauge the real-world impact, and on July 15 they concluded the condition could amount to a noncompliance with FMVSS 111. FCA's Vehicle Regulations Committee made that determination official on August 6, 2026.

What stands out here is the reach. A single software defect in one supplier's radio unit touched 16 separate nameplates spanning four brands, which makes this one of the broader campaigns of the year by nameplate count even though the fix itself is straightforward. That's the tradeoff of shared electrical architecture across a large lineup: when one component has a problem, it rarely stays contained to a single model. How BizzyCar can help

A 16-model, four-brand recall is exactly the kind of campaign that's easy to under-resource, since no single model carries the bulk of the volume and outreach can end up scattered across teams. BizzyCar's Recall Outreach product identifies every affected VIN in a dealer's market, regardless of brand or model, and reaches those owners directly through two-way SMS to get the software update scheduled.

That matters even more here because part of the fix happens automatically over the air. Dealers still need to confirm which vehicles received the OTA update and which ones need the USB fix in person, and Recall Outreach keeps that distinction from falling through the cracks. Book a demo.
