The affected vehicles were produced between February 17, 2023 and October 8, 2024. Ford estimates roughly 1 percent of the population actually carries the defect, but every vehicle in the group is being called in for inspection. The parts in question are the rear left and rear right side quarter window glass assemblies, supplied by Saint-Gobain in Mexico. These vehicles were not built in VIN order, so an owner cannot judge inclusion by build date alone. The safety concern is not to the occupants of the Mach-E but to everyone around it. On May 4, 2026, Ford's Body Exterior team flagged a spike in claims citing loose or detached rear side quarter window trim on 2023 to 2025 Mach-E vehicles, and the Critical Concern Review Group opened an investigation on May 12. Through May and June, engineers traced the onset back to February 2023, when the supplier introduced a new assembly jig that shortened the time to install the trim onto the glass. That shorter cycle left the trim primer without enough time to cure, and the bond came up weak. The supplier had already installed a permanent fix on September 28, 2024, adding a timer to the jig that blocks installation until 30 seconds have passed.
The scope widened after NHTSA got involved. Ford handed a trim piece to the Office of Defect Investigation on June 3, 2026, and ODI came back with the view that the piece could endanger other road users because of its sharp edges. By July 21, 2026, Ford had logged 219 reports of loose or detached trim from the affected build periods, drawn from warranty claims filed between July 2023 and April 2026, and the Field Review Committee approved the recall that same day.
