The Telluride has been one of the most in-demand three-row SUVs on the road since it launched, which is exactly why this recall carries so much weight for Kia service departments this summer. On July 2, 2026, Kia filed a safety recall covering 462,869 model year 2020 through 2024 Tellurides over a front power seat switch condition that can lead to a fire.
One vehicle line falls under this campaign, built across a five-year window.
An external impact with enough force on the front power seat side cover or the seat slide knob can dislodge, misalign, or otherwise damage the power seat switch. A damaged or misaligned switch, or a Telluride that received an improper repair under the earlier 24V407 recall, can cause a seat motor to run continuously. Over time, that continuous operation overheats the motor and creates a fire risk, whether the vehicle is being driven or parked. Kia estimates roughly 1 percent of the population may show the condition.
Kia points to three warning signs owners may notice before a failure: the seat slide knob sticking or a seat that keeps moving after the knob is released, a burning or melting smell, and smoke from underneath the seat.
This is an in-person dealer repair, not an over-the-air fix. Dealers will install an electronic fuse assembly that cuts off continuous seat motor operation if the switch becomes dislodged, misaligned, or damaged. The repair is free of charge. Until it is completed, Kia is advising owners to park outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures.
Owners who already paid for a related repair can be reimbursed under Kia’s general reimbursement plan filed April 30, 2026. Kia notified dealers on July 6, 2026, and owner notification letters mail August 13 through 19, 2026. VINs became searchable on July 17, 2026, so owners can confirm whether their vehicle is included by entering their VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls or by contacting a Kia dealer.
This action supersedes recall 24V407, an earlier campaign that addressed the same power seat concern. Kia determined a more complete remedy was warranted and expanded the scope, which means some Tellurides repaired under the previous recall need to return for the updated fix. Tellurides built on or after May 30, 2024 already carry a reinforced power seat switch mechanism and fall outside this campaign.
For service departments, the supersession is the detail that matters most. A recall that replaces a prior one brings back owners who have already been through the door once, on top of everyone who never responded the first time. That is a large, motivated service population sitting in your market right now.
