Recall Date:
06/09/2026

NHTSA ID: 26V374

MFr. Campaign Number: 26C29

Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company

Affected Components: Power Window Operating System software

Potential Number of Units Affected: ~18,124

Which Ford Vehicles are Affected?

This recall covers 2017 Ford Escape vehicles produced between October 08, 2015, and January 15, 2017. A total of 18,124 Escape vehicles are affected, with an estimated defect rate of 100%. Ford's records indicate that these vehicles did not have the power window operating system software remedy for Safety Recall 16C12/16V-617 installed correctly, even though they were recorded as successfully repaired.

What drivers need to know

The root cause is that the power window system configuration may exceed the regulatory requirement for remote actuation closing force. Because the correct software update remedy may not be installed on the vehicle, the affected vehicles may not conform to the FMVSS 118, Section 5 requirements for automatic reversal systems during remote window closing.
The underlying safety risk specified in Safety Recall 16C12/16V-617 still exists on these vehicles. If the window closing force exceeds the regulatory requirement, it could increase the risk of injury. There are no warnings prior to this occurring.

Ford recall background

The remedy is a free software update for the power window operating system. Owners will be instructed by mail to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer. Dealers will update the software and validate the part numbers using the Software Validation Form in the Professional Technician System before closing the field service action. Reimbursement may be available for owners who paid for repairs prior to notification.

Planned dealer notifications are expected between July 6, 2026, and July 8, 2026. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed between July 6, 2026, and July 10, 2026. The VINs are planned to be searchable beginning July 6, 2026. The incomplete software remedies were discovered through a cross-functional audit reviewing discrepancies between the legacy IDS tool and the new FDRS field service tool. On June 2, 2026, Ford's Field Review Committee approved the field action, and Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.
