This recall involves 2014 Ford F-150 vehicles built between June 19, 2013, and December 23, 2014. The total number of potentially involved vehicles is 44,963, with an estimated defect rate of 100%. According to Ford's records, these vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software remedy for Safety Recall 24S37 / 24V-444 correctly installed, despite being marked as having the repair completed.
What drivers need to know
The defect involves an intermittent loss of the transmission Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor signal to the PCM. Ford has identified various causal factors of an intermittent OSS signal in this population of vehicles, including contamination, power short to ground, connector corrosion, connector pin swaging, and incorrect outputs from the OSS sensor.
The underlying safety risk from the previous safety recall remains present. The loss of the OSS sensor signal can potentially result in a temporary, unintended downshift into first gear. Depending on vehicle speed at the time of an intermittent OSS failure, an abrupt transmission downshift to first gear without warning could occur, which could result in a loss of vehicle control and an increased risk of a crash.
Drivers may notice an illuminated Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) when a downshift to first gear occurs. In some instances, the OSS signal could recover while driving, and the vehicle will resume normal function, but in other cases, the vehicle may need to be stopped and restarted to regain normal transmission operation.
Ford recall background
The remedy consists of a software update at no cost to the owner. Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the PCM software updated. The software part numbers will then be validated using the Software Validation Form in the Professional Technician System before the field service action is closed. Owners may be eligible for reimbursement for prior repair costs.
Dealer notifications are expected between July 6, 2026, and July 8, 2026. Owner notification letters are expected to begin mailing on July 6, 2026, and be completed by July 10, 2026. The date VINs are planned to be searchable is July 6, 2026. The incomplete recall remedies were discovered during an audit of the transition between the legacy IDS tool and the FDRS tool. On June 2, 2026, Ford's Field Review Committee approved the field action, and Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.
