March 2026 Lexus RX350 Recall

Recall Date: 3/18/2026

NHTSA ID: 26V162

MFr. Campaign Number: 26LB02/26LA02

Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing

Affected Components: Backup Camera / Multimedia System

Potential Number of Units Affected: ~144,200

Which Lexus vehicles are affected?

This recall covers four Lexus models spanning model years 2022 through 2026. All affected vehicles are conventional gas models equipped with a specific multimedia system and a specific in-cabin USB charger. Hybrid models with the same multimedia system are not affected, as their electrical architecture prevents the voltage drop condition from occurring.

Toyota estimates that 100% of the vehicles in this population carry the conditions necessary for the defect. The multimedia system components were supplied by Panasonic Automotive Systems. Whether the backup camera actually shows a blank screen in any given situation depends on specific driver behavior described below.

What drivers need to know

The defect is triggered by a specific sequence of events. If the engine is running and the driver turns the ignition off and back on within approximately eight seconds, the voltage drop that occurs during engine cranking can interrupt the backup camera boot sequence. When the driver then shifts into reverse, the backup camera may display a blank screen instead of the rearview image.

The root cause is the in-cabin USB charger. Unlike other Toyota and Lexus models equipped with the same multimedia system, the affected vehicles have a USB charger that lacks a capacitor. That capacitor, present in non-recalled models, buffers the voltage drop and prevents it from disrupting the camera boot cycle. Hybrid models are not affected because they enter READY ON mode via the EV system before engine cranking begins, and no voltage drop occurs in that sequence.

A blank backup camera screen during a backing event removes rearward visibility at the moment it is most needed, creating a crash risk for anyone behind the vehicle. Toyota has not reported the number of field incidents in the Part 573 submission. The fix is a software update to the backup camera system, or a camera replacement if needed, both free of charge. Owners who already paid out of pocket for this repair before the recall are eligible for reimbursement under Lexus's General Reimbursement Plan. Dealers were notified March 18, 2026. Owner notification is scheduled between May 3 and May 17, 2026.

Toyota recall background

Toyota received the first field reports of inoperative backup cameras in early 2025 and began bench testing in March of that year. The specific trigger conditions proved difficult to replicate consistently. It took until September 2025 to confirm the eight-second ignition cycling window as a factor, and until January 2026 to identify the USB charger design difference as the root cause. Toyota formally determined the FMVSS 111 noncompliance on March 11, 2026.

At 144,200 vehicles, this is one of the largest recalls submitted in March 2026. For context on how it fits into broader quarterly recall trends, see BizzyCar's most recent quarterly recall report.

How BizzyCar can help

A recall of this size across four Lexus models represents real service drive volume. With 100% of the affected population carrying the defect condition, every covered vehicle in a dealer's customer database is a legitimate appointment opportunity. Owner notification does not begin until May, but the recall is live now.

BizzyCar's Recall Outreach product identifies open recall vehicles in a dealer's customer base and initiates two-way SMS outreach automatically. Lexus dealers who move on this recall before the mail lands will book more appointments and close more of this population than those who wait. Book a Demo
