What drivers need to know
At startup, an error in the meter’s initialization process can cause parts of the display to go blank. When that happens, the required indicators for engine oil pressure, engine coolant temperature, and electrical charge may not appear if the underlying problem occurs. The vehicles may not meet the telltale requirements of FMVSS No. 101, and drivers who can’t see those warnings may not recognize a problem in time, which increases crash risk. The issue can occur randomly at startup.
The fix is free. Owners will receive a software update for the combination meter through Lexus dealers, and Toyota says it may also be offered over the air in the future for vehicles that support it. Toyota will notify owners by December 21, 2026, and notified dealers on October 20, 2026.
Lexus recall background
Toyota began receiving reports of blank meter displays in 2023. Early parts analysis found nothing wrong, but supplier fault-tree analysis and bench testing from 2024 through 2026 eventually reproduced the blank screen. In October 2026, testing confirmed that meter software with a certain amount of text could shorten initialization time and cause internal processing interference. On October 14, 2026, Toyota determined the vehicles may not meet FMVSS No. 101. The supplier is Denso.
