Mercedes-Benz built the population from production records. Vehicles outside it have brake hoses that meet production durability specifications.
The hoses can fail because of material fatigue. Years of thermal and mechanical stress wear on the rubber, and a hose that no longer meets durability specifications can leak. A leak reduces braking performance in one of the two brake circuits, which raises the risk of a crash. There is no warning before the failure. When it happens, the driver might see a red brake fluid warning message in the instrument cluster.
What drivers need to know
An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will replace the brake hoses on the front axle. Federal recall rules require the repair at no cost to the owner. The report lists Do Not Drive and Park Outside as consumer advisories, so owners should read their notice closely and call a dealer when it arrives. Mercedes-Benz USA does not plan to send pre-notice reimbursement information, because these vehicles were not previously subject to the condition.
Dealers were notified on October 9, 2026. Owner notification is scheduled for November 27, 2026, and the recall is phased. The report does not give a date for VINs to become searchable. Owners can check a specific vehicle at NHTSA.gov/recalls once it is.
Mercedes-Benz recall background
This campaign grew out of 25V116, filed on February 24, 2025. That recall defined its population by climate exposure and a particular production period, based on the field data available then. Between March and August 2025, Mercedes-Benz received additional field reports from outside the United States involving vehicles built outside the original range and, in some cases, driven outside the original climate regions.
Mercedes-Benz launched a Field Engineering Activity in March 2026, had the hoses back by June, and reviewed the supplier's laboratory and durability results in July. Those results widened the scope to every vehicle built until the modified hose entered series production. The change took effect on November 29, 2024, so vehicles built from that date forward are not affected. On September 25, 2026, Mercedes-Benz decided to expand the recall.
In the United States, Mercedes-Benz is aware of three reports in the expanded population, dated April 2, May 29, and August 10, 2026. It is not aware of any crashes, injuries, or property damage. Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz filed the 310,667-vehicle door-lock microswitch recall, 26V481, in July. For the full recall data this quarter, see our Q3 2026 automotive recall report.
How BizzyCar can help
S-Class owners are among the highest-value customers in your service drive, and this recall puts a Do Not Drive advisory on all of them. Dealers were notified October 9, and owner letters do not go out until November 27. That leaves seven weeks where the dealer is the only party who can reach these owners first.
BizzyCar Recall Outreach finds vehicles with open recalls and schedules service automatically through two-way SMS. Dealers who know which S-Class vehicles in their market are affected can book the brake hose replacement before the letter lands.
