Each of these vans was built with an electric power steering (EPS) system that is susceptible to water intrusion. Water gets into the wiring harness and corrodes it, which causes intermittent or permanent loss of power steering assist. The result is inconsistent steering effort, and FCA says that raises the risk of a crash.
There is no warning before the failure. The EPS fault light may illuminate once assist is lost. FCA built its population from supplier and vehicle production records and notes that similar vans built after October 2025 do not use the susceptible EPS.
What drivers need to know
Dealers will inspect the vehicle and, if necessary, replace the wiring harness and the EPS gear. The replacement harnesses have improved sealing that prevents water intrusion. FCA is using its general reimbursement plan, and the repair is performed at no cost to the owner.
FCA will notify dealers on or about October 6, 2026, and VINs become searchable in NHTSA's recall lookup that day. Owner notification begins on or about November 17, 2026. FCA has not issued a Do Not Drive or Park Outside advisory. Any owner who sees the EPS fault light should contact a dealer right away.
Ram recall background
This recall started with NHTSA. On September 22, 2025, the agency sent FCA a pre-investigation inquiry covering nine complaints of lost or reduced steering assist. FCA opened its own investigation in January 2026, and on March 2, 2026, NHTSA opened Preliminary Evaluation PE26-002 on 2022-2024 model year ProMasters.
The recall is broader than that evaluation. It reaches the 2025 and 2026 model years and adds the ProMaster 3500 EV. FCA identified 437 customer assistance records, 2,799 warranty claims, and 191 field reports tied to the issue through June 9, 2026, plus 974 other reports as of September 2, 2026. The company is aware of one accident and no injuries. FCA determined a safety defect exists on September 22, 2026.
FCA filed a second recall the same day, covering tire pressure sensors on the 2026 Ram 1500. For the bigger picture on how this quarter's recalls are stacking up, read our Q3 2026 automotive recall report.
How BizzyCar can help
VINs become searchable on October 6, but owner notifications do not begin until mid-November. That is six weeks where your store can see which ProMasters are affected and the owners cannot. Waiting for a mailed notice to bring them in is like having open service bays and waiting on a letter to fill them.
BizzyCar Recall Outreach finds vehicles with open recalls and schedules service automatically through two-way SMS. With 265,512 vans in this population, the dealers who start the conversation first are the ones who fill the service drive first. Schedule a demo.
