Affected vehicles were built between September 7, 2022 and June 9, 2026, when Ford introduced a corrective fix on the assembly line. Ford traced the population through vehicle assembly plant production records rather than VIN sequence, so a dealer or owner has to check a specific vehicle through Ford's OASIS system or the toll-free line rather than assume by build date alone. Ford estimates the defect actually shows up in about 1 percent of the 148,663 vehicles in scope.

The issue lives in a heat shrink material on the engine compartment wiring harness. In some vehicles, adhesive from that heat shrink intruded into the bolt clearance area around a ground eyelet, bending the eyelet enough to shorten its fatigue life under normal vehicle vibration. Over time and mileage, a bent eyelet can crack. Depending on which of the harness's ground points fails, a driver can lose motive power, one or both headlamps, the windshield washer pump, air conditioning, or the engine cooling fan, which is why Ford cites noncompliance with FMVSS 104 for windshield washing systems and FMVSS 108 for lamps.

What drivers need to know

The fix is a straightforward parts swap. Ford dealers will replace all four engine compartment wiring harness ground terminals with a redesigned standoff eyelet pigtail that eliminates the clamp-up interference driving the original failure. There is no charge for the repair, and the campaign does not carry a Do Not Drive or Park Outside advisory, so owners can keep driving while they wait for their notification letter.

Ford expects to notify dealers on August 28, 2026, with interim owner letters mailing between August 31 and September 4, 2026. A second, remedy-specific letter follows once parts are fully available, expected to wrap up in the first quarter of 2027. Owners who want to check a specific vehicle now, rather than wait on the mail, can do so at NHTSA.gov/recalls once VINs become searchable on August 28.

Ford recall background

This one started on the test track, not in a customer's driveway. On June 4, 2026, Ford's Electrical Distribution System team flagged two broken ground eyelets on a 2027 model year Mustang during durability testing, and the vehicle lost motive power as a result. Ford issued a stop ship for 2026 model year Mustang production that same day and brought the concern to its Critical Concern Review Group five days later. As of early August, Ford had logged eight warranty claims tied to the condition, four of which surfaced in vehicles with less than three months in service, and zero related complaints filed with NHTSA.

That combination, caught in testing before it built into a wave of field failures, is the version of this problem every dealer would rather see. Ford filed this campaign the same week as a separate piston recall covering several other nameplates, which puts two open Ford campaigns into service lanes at once this fall. Neither overlaps in scope, but a store running both should expect some owners to receive two letters in the same month.

How BizzyCar can help

A recall this size, spread across three model years and traced through production records instead of VIN order, is exactly the kind of campaign that stalls out if a dealer is relying on a spreadsheet and a mail merge. BizzyCar's Recall Outreach product matches live NHTSA recall data against a dealer's own customer database, then reaches every affected owner through two-way SMS to get the appointment booked without a single outbound call from the service team.

Every Mustang that comes in for this repair is also a vehicle overdue for a look at maintenance intervals it may have skipped.
