The water management system on the tailgate may not move water away from the rearview camera as intended. Under heavy rainfall, water can pool around the camera installation, and over time that standing water can damage the camera. A damaged camera may show no image at all, or an unclear one, when the driver shifts into reverse. Because the rear view is compromised at the moment it is needed, the loss of a clear image raises the risk of a crash. Jaguar Land Rover lists the estimated share of affected vehicles carrying the condition at 100 percent, which is why the entire built population is included.

What drivers need to know

The remedy addresses the cause and the symptom together. Dealers will drill additional drain holes in the underside of the tailgate trim that houses the camera, giving pooled water a path to escape. They will then verify the camera works and replace it if needed. The repair is permanent and carries no charge to the owner. Because it involves physical work on the tailgate, it requires a dealer visit.

This recall does not carry a Do Not Drive or Park Outside advisory. Jaguar Land Rover planned to notify dealers on July 30, 2026, and to mail owner notification letters on or before September 11, 2026. Owners can confirm whether a specific Discovery is included by entering the VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls or by contacting a local Land Rover retailer.

Land Rover recall background

This recall came out of a steady read of warranty data rather than a single dramatic event. On February 20, 2026, Jaguar Land Rover's Product Safety and Compliance Committee opened an investigation after warranty claims showed a higher-than-expected rate of rear camera replacements on a small group of 2021 model year Discovery vehicles. Early analysis of customer comments found no clear pattern, and the supplier's teardown of returned parts found no defect inside the camera itself.

From April through June 2026, the review widened to later model years and moved to physical and virtual testing of the camera and its installation. That work showed that under certain heavy rainfall conditions, water could pool around the camera, pointing to drainage rather than the camera as the root cause. The matter went to the committee's decision forum on July 9, 2026, which called for the recall. Jaguar Land Rover recorded 100 claims and field reports in the US between August 2021 and March 2026, with no reported accidents, injuries, or fires. Field data suggests the condition was resolved in production by the end of the 2025 model year. For more background on this quarter's recall, check out our Quarterly Recall Report.

How BizzyCar can help

A 15,535-unit recall is smaller than a mass-market campaign, but the owners are concentrated in a premium segment that expects a smooth service experience, and the fix is quick shop work once the vehicle is on the lift. The challenge is the same as always, which is getting the vehicle scheduled before the owner forgets the letter. BizzyCar's Recall Outreach product identifies vehicles in a dealer's market with open recalls and books the appointment automatically through two-way SMS, so the conversation happens where owners actually respond.

That turns an open campaign into booked appointments and keeps Discovery owners inside your service lane rather than drifting elsewhere. Every recall visit also creates an opening for the maintenance and declined-service work that follows.Book a demo.
