On these vehicles, the certification label was printed with incorrect GAWR values, which puts them out of compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110 and the certification requirements of 49 CFR Part 567. The root cause traces to how the rating was calculated. Because of ambiguity in the standard, Nissan derived the GAWR from the maximum tire pressure alone rather than from both the maximum tire pressure and the manufacturer-recommended pressure listed on the tire placard. No other Nissan or Infiniti vehicles are affected.

There is no warning for the customer. The label simply reads incorrectly, and the safety risk is that an owner relying on the printed limits could overload the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash.

What drivers need to know

This is a labeling correction, and the fix is quick. Dealers apply a small overlay label carrying the corrected GAWR values over the existing certification label. Nissan will also print and mail a corrected label to owners along with instructions for applying it themselves. All repairs are free of charge for parts and labor, and the work is expected to take less than half an hour.

The operative action for dealers is a stop sale that begins July 16, 2026, and VINs are searchable the same day. The NHTSA report also lists Do Not Drive and Park Outside advisories for the campaign, so owners should read their notification carefully. Nissan plans to begin notifying owners of all potentially affected vehicles on September 4, 2026. Owners can confirm whether a specific vehicle is included by entering the VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls. Nissan reports no warranty claims, accidents, or injuries related to the condition.

Nissan recall background

This recall grew out of a regulatory review rather than a field failure. In May 2025, while developing a new model, Nissan identified a discrepancy between the language in FMVSS 110 and the corresponding NHTSA test procedure and opened an investigation. Through the summer and into 2026, Nissan worked through how the standard should be interpreted for calculating GAWR, revised the values printed on the certification label, and adopted the corrected label into production on March 16, 2026. A horizontal review that ran through the spring confirmed the full scope of affected vehicles, and on July 8, 2026, Nissan decided to conduct a voluntary recall.

The takeaway for dealers is that a compliance recall carries the same stop-sale weight as a mechanical one. Vehicles cannot be delivered until the label is corrected, so the fastest path back to a clean lot is closing these VINs quickly, even though the repair itself is one of the simplest a service department will see this year. How BizzyCar can help

A 168,149-unit recall that resolves in under half an hour looks easy on paper, and that is exactly why it can stall. A quick label swap does not feel urgent to an owner, and mailed instructions asking someone to apply a label themselves are easy to set aside. The affected vehicles are also spread across model years back to 2011, so many owners are no longer in regular contact with the selling dealer.

BizzyCar's Recall Outreach product identifies vehicles in a dealer's market with open recalls and books the service appointment automatically through two-way SMS, so the conversation happens where owners actually respond. That turns a low-effort recall into scheduled traffic, brings Armada, QX56, and QX80 owners back through the door, and creates the opening for the maintenance and declined-service work that comes with every visit.
