Which Chrysler vehicles are affected?
This recall covers the 2020–2022 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) — 17,277 vehicles in total. FCA US estimates that approximately 1% of the population carries the active defect. The affected vehicles were built between August 5, 2020, and May 2, 2022, the production window during which Pacifica PHEVs were equipped with high-voltage battery packs containing cells produced on an alternative assembly line at LG Energy Solution. Pacifica vehicles built before or after this window, non-PHEV Pacifica vehicles, and PHEVs equipped with HV batteries produced on the primary LGES assembly line are not part of this recall.
The defect involves the high-voltage battery pack. The cells produced on the alternative LGES assembly line may fail internally, and an internal cell failure can result in thermal runaway, leading to a vehicle fire. No warning indicator signals the battery is at risk. The supplier is LG Energy Solution Michigan, Inc.
What drivers need to know
A vehicle fire can result in occupant injury and injury to persons outside the vehicle. Until the remedy is complete, FCA US is advising owners not to recharge their Pacifica PHEV and to park the vehicle away from structures and other vehicles. This is a Park Outside advisory.
The remedy comes in two parts. First, FCA US will update the high voltage Battery Pack Control Module (BPCM) with revised software that monitors the battery pack for conditions that could lead to a fire. Second, FCA US will inspect the battery pack assembly and, if necessary, replace it. For impacted customers who experience messaging related to the defect and need a battery replacement, FCA US is providing a warranty extension with unlimited years and unlimited mileage. There is no charge for the service.
Dealers will be notified on or about June 11, 2026, and owner notification letters will begin mailing on or about June 23, 2026. VINs become searchable on June 11, 2026. 2020 and 2021 model year owners will receive a final owner letter, while 2022 model year owners will receive an interim letter.
Chrysler recall background
NHTSA first opened a Recall Query on this issue in January 2024, focused on 2017–2018 model year Pacifica PHEVs with thermal events at or near the HV battery. FCA US responded fully to that inquiry in May 2024. In March 2026, NHTSA expanded the Recall Query to cover 2017–2026 model year Pacifica PHEVs, prompting FCA US's Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance team to open an investigation into 2020–2022 Pacifica PHEVs experiencing HV battery fires. Since August 2023, FCA US has received four reports of vehicle fires originating from the HV battery — all in vehicles with cells produced on the alternative LGES assembly line. The Vehicle Regulations Committee determined a safety defect exists on May 28, 2026. As of mid-May 2026, FCA US is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
This recall continues a multi-year industry pattern of EV and PHEV battery actions tied to specific cell production lines or batches. For dealers managing electrified inventory and customer relationships, the operational profile of a Park Outside, Do-Not-Charge advisory carries weight beyond the affected unit count. How BizzyCar can help
A Park Outside, Do-Not-Charge advisory changes the urgency profile of a recall. Pacifica PHEV owners need to know about this immediately, not when the letter arrives in the mail — and Chrysler dealers carrying this customer base have an opportunity to demonstrate that responsiveness directly. With the remedy involving a software update at minimum and potentially a full battery pack replacement, capacity planning matters too.
BizzyCar Recall Outreach cross-references a dealer's customer database against open recall data to identify which vehicles are affected. From there, BizzyCar's AI agent reaches out to those owners through automated two-way SMS — scheduling appointments without requiring service advisors to work through a calling list. Dealers who move early on recall outreach consistently capture more ROs than dealers who wait for owners to self-schedule after the letter arrives.
