Electronic stability control and brake assist are systems that drivers never think about until they are gone. On June 30, 2026, Chrysler filed a safety recall covering 11,980 model year 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L vehicles over brake control software that can disable both.

Two full-size Jeep models fall under this campaign, both from the 2026 model year.

Affected vehicles may have been built with a brake system control module running suspect software. That software can disable electronic stability control and cause a loss of electronic brake assist, which puts the vehicles out of compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 126 and 135. A loss of either system can lead to a crash without prior warning.

There is no warning to the driver beforehand. Once the module faults, multiple warning lights may illuminate in the instrument cluster.

What drivers need to know

The remedy is a software update to the brake system control module, performed at no charge. No parts replacement is required to correct the condition.

Chrysler notified dealers on or about July 9, 2026, and began notifying owners on or about July 30, 2026. Affected VINs are searchable as of July 9, 2026.

Owners can confirm whether a specific vehicle is included by entering the VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls or by contacting a Jeep dealer.

Jeep recall background

Chrysler opened its investigation on April 7, 2026, and worked through engineering and field record analysis before determining on June 25, 2026, that a noncompliance existed. The suspect vehicles were built between June 2025 and February 2026, covering the early production run of the 2026 Grand Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L.

These are low-volume, high-value flagships, and their owners expect a premium ownership experience. A quick, well-handled recall response protects that relationship and brings high-margin customers into the service lane.
