The recall covers a single model line across five model years:
Ford built affected trucks between January 4, 2023 and August 27, 2026, but the recall population isn't every truck from that window. It's limited to trucks that were either still unsold or had less than three months in service as of August 27, 2026, because Ford's field data shows this condition tends to show up early in a vehicle's life if it's going to show up at all. Ford estimates about 1 percent of the 223,472 trucks in scope actually carry the defect.
The cause traces back to final assembly. In some trucks, the front fuel tank strap's T-slots were not properly inserted into the vehicle's frame rail, and camera systems meant to verify that connection were not in continuous use at F-150 assembly plants during the affected period. A strap that isn't properly seated can allow the fuel tank to become unsecured and, in the worst case, detach from the truck while it's being driven, which raises the risk of a fuel leak, a fire, an engine stall from fuel loss, and a road hazard for the vehicles behind it.
What drivers need to know
The remedy is an inspection, with a strap replacement for any truck that needs it, at no charge. The recall does not carry a Do Not Drive or Park Outside advisory, and there's no dashboard warning that would tip a driver off before a problem develops. Ford expects to notify dealers on September 14, 2026, with remedy owner notification letters mailing between September 21 and September 28, 2026. VINs became searchable at NHTSA.gov/recalls on September 14.

Ford's Critical Concern Review Group first took up the issue on July 23, 2026, after global warranty data turned up a pattern of unsecured fuel tanks concentrated in trucks built during the specific windows when the verification cameras weren't running continuously. As of late August, Ford had counted 16 warranty claims globally tied to the condition, with claim dates stretching back to 2018, well before this recall's production window even opens. That gap matters for how Ford scoped the population: rather than recall every truck built since 2018, Ford focused on the vehicles still early enough in their service life that the same early-onset pattern is most likely to appear, which is why trucks with more than three months on the road are excluded.
Ford's Field Review Committee approved the field action on September 1, 2026, and the automaker says it isn't aware of any accidents or injuries tied to the condition. For a truck built in the volumes the F-150 moves every year, a 223,472-unit population concentrated in recent builds and fresh inventory means dealers should expect a meaningful share of these vehicles to still be sitting on their own lots.
